Further education to the fore
Göteborg University, Chalmers University of Technology and the Göteborg School of Economics and Business Studies between them make the city a centre of higher education, research and development. Regional colleges are also growing from strength to strength in Borås, Trollhättan-Uddevalla-Vänersborg and Skövde. The region's Schools of Public Health and the R&D work in the field of agriculture being undertaken in Skara also make valuable contributions to the development of Västra Götaland as a whole.

Göteborg and its surrounding region figure above the national average in terms of the number of people with extensive further education. Certain sectors of the municipalities of Lysekil, Uddevalla, Trollhättan and Vänersborg and the central region of Skaraborg also reflect impressive levels of post-upper secondary school education.
